Jeld-Wen Window Installation: The Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

Jeld-Wen window installation in Palm Beach typically runs $350 to $900 per window for a standard replacement, and most jobs wrap up in a single visit. We keep Jeld-Wen-compatible hardware and seal kits on our trucks, so if you have a failed sash, a fogged insulated unit, or a crank that finally gave out, we can usually resolve it the day we show up. The way most Palm Beach owners discover a problem is quiet at first: a window that won’t stay up, condensation between the panes that never clears, or a crank that turns but stopped moving the sash years ago. By the time you call, it’s been bothering you for a while.

TruePane Windows & Doors is an independent installer and service provider. We’re not a Jeld-Wen corporate entity, and that’s worth saying plainly because it changes the warranty picture: we honor Jeld-Wen manufacturer coverage where it applies, and we stand behind our own workmanship in writing. Dale Kessler, our owner, started this company in 2008 after watching too many Palm Beach homeowners get stuck between a manufacturer pointing at the installer and an installer pointing back at the glass. We register both warranty layers before the truck leaves your driveway.

Which Jeld-Wen Models This Applies To

Jeld-Wen builds several window lines that show up regularly in Palm Beach homes, and the installation details differ enough that matching the right part matters. The Siteline series is the most common in mid-century and custom-built residences here, followed by Builders and Premium Atlantic lines in newer construction. Within Siteline, the EX and DX subseries share frame dimensions but not hardware, so a crank assembly from one won’t seat in the other without forcing it, and forcing hardware on a Florida window is how you end up with a stripped gear and a sash that binds.

The reliable way to identify your window is the small white AAMA label on the inside of the frame or the top edge of the sash. That sticker lists the series, the glass spec, and the date of manufacture. If the label has faded or been painted over, measure the visible glass from edge to edge and we’ll match it against Jeld-Wen’s spec sheets. For hardware like balance rods and crank operators, we use OEM parts when they’re available and still covered, and we’ll tell you when a quality aftermarket equivalent makes more sense, especially on older Builders-series windows where Jeld-Wen has discontinued the original hardware. In Palm Beach’s salt air, aftermarket stainless steel hardware often outlasts the original zinc plated pieces.

Signs Your Jeld-Wen Window Installation Is Failing

  • The sash drops when you open it more than a few inches. This almost always means a balance rod or spring has failed. Jeld-Wen uses a specific balance length and tension rating per sash weight, and a mismatch causes exactly this. It won’t fix itself.
  • Fog or moisture between the panes that never goes away. The insulated glass unit seal has failed. In Palm Beach humidity, once the desiccant inside the spacer is saturated, the fog becomes permanent. The glass unit needs replacement, not the whole window.
  • The crank turns but the sash barely moves, or it slips. The operator gear or the hinge arm has stripped. This is common in windows that face the Intracoastal, where airborne salt accelerates corrosion on the operator mechanism.
  • You can see daylight or feel a draft around the sash even when it’s closed and locked. The weatherstripping has compressed or the sash has shifted out of square. Left alone, this gets worse every hurricane season and quietly raises your cooling bill.
  • The window sticks or binds only when the sun hits it in the afternoon. The frame or sash has expanded and warped slightly. It’s more common on west-facing exposures in Palm Beach, and it means the original install didn’t leave enough clearance for our thermal cycles.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Installed Range (Palm Beach)
Balance rod or spring replacement (per sash) $180 - $340
Crank operator and hinge arm replacement $220 - $410
Insulated glass unit replacement (standard size) $350 - $650
Full sash replacement (matched to existing frame) $450 - $900
Weatherstripping and alignment service $130 - $250

In Palm Beach, the range is driven by sash size, glass rating, and whether your window carries impact-rated glass. Homes west of I-95 in neighborhoods like Wellington and Royal Palm Beach sometimes have standard insulated glass, while anything east of Olive Avenue often carries impact-rated units that cost more. The quote you get from us is the price you pay; parts and labor are itemized on paper before we start, and we don’t come back with a change order unless we find something that genuinely wasn’t visible at the quote. Every Jeld-Wen install or replacement we do carries our Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right, without paperwork fights. And if the window is still under Jeld-Wen’s manufacturer warranty, we register our work and the applicable warranty layer in writing so coverage is documented both ways.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely do is identify the problem: read the AAMA label, note whether the fog is between the panes (a glass seal failure) or on the room-side surface (just humidity), and check whether the sash is square in the frame. That’s useful information, and it helps us show up prepared. What we don’t recommend is pulling a Jeld-Wen sash apart on your own. The balance rods are under spring tension, and a cocked balance can release hard enough to take a finger off. Crank operators are deceptively simple, but the wrong replacement stripped and forced into place will destroy the mating gear in the sash. Insulated glass replacement means removing the glazing bead without cracking a $400 unit, and then bedding the new unit with the correct sealant depth, the kind of detail Dale Kessler learned at Palm Beach State College and has applied on thousands of windows across Palm Beach County since.

If the window is already out of square or the frame has shifted, that’s a leveling and shimming job, not a part swap. We’d rather walk you through what we’re seeing over the phone and give you an honest read than let you find out the hard way. Call (850) 801-5596 and a live person answers. We’ll tell you what we think before we ever take a truck out.

What Neighbors Say About TruePane Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★★

"French doors to the patio, custom size because this house was built in 1961 and nothing is standard. Measured twice, three weeks to fabricate like they warned, and the install day they laid runners over my floors without being asked."

MMarie S.
★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."

BBill T.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."

EEleanor G.
★★★★

"Quote was the price, which after three other bids that grew legs was worth something. Double-hungs went in clean, they hauled the old ones, and the registration paperwork for the warranty came in the mail like they said."

DDorothy K.
★★★★

"Energy bill was the reason we called. They did not oversell - said the two worst walls of windows would do most of the work and we could stop there. Did those eight with the Low-E glass. August electric bill tells the story."

HHarold W.
★★★★

"Storm door and a new back entry door. Small job, but they treated it like one that mattered. Screws in the hinges are stainless, the sweep actually seals, and the invoice matched the phone quote to the dollar."
